Athirappilly Destination Development
Visiting Athirapilly as a tourist and trying to make a positive impact on the environment, society and economy is the theme behind reviving Athirapilly as a tourist destination. The project proposes for a tourist facilitation at the DTPC land opposite to the existing ticket counter and a parking facility at Pillapara which is located at around 4km from the Athirapilly entrance. The construction in DTPC land would be in a sustainable manner incorporating elements like bamboo construction techniques and thatch roofs. The tribal cuisines, forest produces, handicrafts etc produced by the local tribes men and women could be sold here. Responsive tourism incorporating the needs of the local people could be the theme here. Local guides to assist the tourists could be appointed here. The space will be converted as a unique attractive area in which tourists can spend some time for parking, eateries, refreshment and entertainment. Buses would operate from the spot on regular basis to Athirappilly tourist spot.
The entire stretch from above parking area to tourist spots like Athirappilly, Vazhachal, and Charpa will be no parking zone. Those going to Dam, Sholayar, Malakapara – will Be Given Continuous Thoroughfare Vehicular Pass. Cycle stands /buggy points would also be found here. Tickets for movement would be provided here. The treatment in the DTPC land involves the thematic division of spaces using the contours. The materials opted for construction will be sustainable materials like bamboo etc.
